Jeffrey, Lord Francis, 1773-1850
Educated at the University of Glasgow and at Oxford, Lord Francis Jeffrey was a Scottish judge and literary critic. He was the editor of the Edinburgh Review from 1802 to 1829, and at least on one occasion, he raised the ire of an author due to his harsh words. His critique of the poet and author Thomas Moore, led to a duel in 1806, which was broken up by law enforcement. In later years, the two became close friends. He was also a close friend of Andrew Donaldson Campbell, the Teackle's lifelong friend.
