Gallatin, Albert, 1761-1849
Albert Gallatin was born in Geneva, Switzerland in 1864, and immigrated to the United States in the 1780s. He served in the Senate, the House of Representatives, and Treasury Secretary under both President Jefferson and Madison. He supported the chartering of the Second Bank of the United States, organized funding for the Louisiana Purchase, and served on the commission for the Treaty of Ghent. He was an Ambassador to both France and Britain.
