Kendall, Col. Custis, 1748-1813
Col. Custis Kendall II was born about 1748 in Northampton County, Virginia to Col. Custis Kendall I and Elizabeth Bowdoin. He married Susannah Gore on April 16, 1784. In his will, dated October 2, 1803, he left his wife the entire use of his estate for as long as she lived and four enslaved: Bridget, Jack, Spencer, and Fanny. However, Susannah preceded him in death in 1806. After his death in 1813, the enslaved on his property were divided as such: a woman named Peggy and all her children divided equally between his nephews George and James Kendall. The rest were given to his heirs, divided by number of enslaved: Littleton Kendall Senr. 2/7, Custis Kendall 1/14, Henry B. Kendall 1/14, Elizabeth B. Harmanson 1/14, Sally Rodgers 1/14, William Kendall 1/14, Custis Kendall 1/14.
