Cooperville, S.C. Aug. 21, 1848
My dear wife,
I have not yet received the small sum I have a right to expect, but think it best to enclose the letter I have written to my Nephew, who I have no doubt will cheerfully meet you and Upshur at Lancaster, if you can make arrangements for going down. My not being able to send you the small amt. I promised gives me great regret, and the more as the want of it may deprive you of convenient means for making the visit which I have indicated. It must rest entirely with you to decide whither you can go down. I have less than one Dollar now with me. But whether you can go or not, you must try and not be discouraged for I think in a few months I can accomplish something advantageous, andget some funds to send you.
Tell dear Upshur Pa loves Mother and him, and kiss him for me, and may God bless you both.
Your affectionate husband,
A.B. Quinby.
