My dear Son
Your letter to me last week has been unanswered because I wanted some information to give, and I am hurry'd this evening on acct of the request of a Gentleman who requested of me to obtain information of the time of the Sailing of the African from Hampton Roads or the E. Packett from N. York. That it was for Account of your house, he wished to get to England. His name was so Hyrografically signed, I was able to decypher it. I however apply'd to Mr. Jackson, who politely expressed his Regret that he was not able to render you service on that occation. That they both were to sail this morning for Engd. When I presented your Afft on Mssrs. Boyer & Co., he declined accepting it till the 3d Novr. wh is done and in Bank. I shall record it when recd.
The Spanish Minister is not accredited and only has recd assurances of Hospitality and for reason was informed that it was not for the President to know who had the Helm of Governmt in Spain, seeing that then King and Capital were in the power of France. It is said Don Onis will reside in Phila and report has propogated that a negotiation is now pending between Mr. Jackson and the [limited] State. I am doubtfull if there be any data to Justify it. My Ideas are that
