Taylor, William Eyre, 1809-1870

William Eyre Taylor was born on February 18, 1809, in Norfolk, Virginia, to Gen. Robert Barraud Taylor and Nancy Ann Ritson. He married Margaret Alice Lyon, the niece of John Eyre and Ann Upshur Eyre, on February 22, 1831, and together they had at least five children. He served as a Major in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War, having organized a battalion that was eventually named the 6th Virginia Infantry. He was indicted for treason in the United States District Court in Norfolk, Virginia in 1865. He died on September 13, 1870, and is buried at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Norfolk, Virginia.
