Polk, Col. James, 1794-1868

Col. James Polk was born on March 11, 1794, in Somerset County, Maryland, to William Wesley Polk and Elizabeth Anne Purnell. He married Anna Maria Stuart on March 27, 1817, and together they had at least one child. He died of stomach cancer on December 6, 1868, and is buried at the Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church Churchyard in Princess Anne, Maryland.
