Househill

The land of Househill was originally chartered by Sir Thomas Stewart of Minto in 1477, but with the decline of the Stewarts in the mid-1600’s, Househill was sold to Thomas Dunlop in 1646. He sold the estate to John Blackburn and his son, Andrew Blackburn, sold it to Robert Dunlop in 1750. Robert Dunlop’s son, James Dunlop, inherited the house in 1762 and had four daughters who were co-heiresses, including Janet Maria Dunlop Campbell, the wife of Andrew Donaldson Campbell. After the death of the four daughters, none of whom had children, Househill was inherited by the Drumhead branch of the family.
