Parrott, Richard, 1766-1823
Richard Parrott was born sometime in 1766 to Richard Parrott, Sr. and Elizabeth Edwards in Talbot County, Maryland. He owned Parrott’s Mill, which was a wool and cotton manufactury and his house, “Elderslie” was next to Parrott’s Woods overlooking Georgetown, where he had a Rope Walk, a long even stretch of land that was used in making rope, especially for ships. He married Jane Banning and together they had at least two children. He died on January 4, 1823, in Georgetown, Washington D.C. His former land and woods are now Montrose Park.
