Dean, William, c. 1735-1825
Maj. William Dean was born in Maryland between 1735 and 1738 to Richard Dean and his wife, Priscilla. He served in Maryland Militia with his brother, Thomas Dean and brother-in-law, Zebulon Moore. He married Lucy Tatman and together they had eight children, to include his sons, William and Joseph, and daughters Polly and Lucy. He moved from Maryland to Bedford County, Pennsylvania, and lived there for 28 years, before leaving because of assault and battery charges. He and his sons, William and Joseph, lived there until his death in 1825. There is no record of him owning enslaved people.
