Homer
Homer supposedly lived sometime in the 9th or 8th century BCE in the Ancient Greek region of Ionia on the western coast of Anatolia, which is now in modern Turkey. He is attributed as the legendary writer of Ancient Greece’s two greatest epic poems: The Iliad and The Odyssey. There is also a collection of around 34 poems in the same dactylic hexameter that are attributed to Homer called the Homeric Hymns. These Homeric Hymns contain stories that relate to the birth or life of gods like Hermes, Apollo, Demeter, Aphrodite, Dionysus, Athena, Hera, Ares, etc. Many historians and classical scholars do not believe that Homer, as a single person, actually existed, but was a name given to the overall collected oral tradition that was gathered together to become The Iliad, The Odyssey, and the Homeric Hymns.
