Mythology - Greek - Arachne
Arachne is the main character in a story about a woman from Lydia who was so talented at weaving that she was credited with creating linen cloth and nets, as well as the softest, most beautiful cloth and tapestries. She boasted that she was even better than Athena, herself, who had created weaving. Athena accepted that challenge and after defeating Arachne, though both works were beautifully woven, she changed the mortal woman into a spider so that she would continue to weave beautiful works forever.
