Mythology - Roman - Mars
Mars was the god of war and agriculture, as well as the Guardian of Rome. He was the son of Jupiter and Juno, though some stories say that he was only the son of Juno, who gave birth to him after eating a magical flower. He is named as the father of Romulus and Remus, the twins who founded Rome, and is considered the Father of the Roman People. His symbols are the spear, shield, wolf, and woodpecker. The month of March (Martius) is named for him and was when most of the festivals and rites to honor him were done.
