Campbell, Andrew Donaldson, 1777-1854
Andrew D. Campbell was a merchant of Glasgow, the son of James Campbell and Marion Muirhead Campbell. In 1817, he married Janet Maria Dunlop, and around 1825, he built a grand home, Ashcraig, in Skelmorlie, Scotland. A.D. Campbell was lifelong friends of the Teackles, having spent 1797-1799 in the U.S., where he attended Columbia University with Littleton D. Teackle. During breaks, he stayed often with the Teackle family, either in Philadelphia or at their home in Kegotank, Va. During these times, he became well acquainted with both the Teackle and Upshur families, including Elizabeth Upshur Teackle, with whom he developed a close and enduring friendship.
