Crippen, Samuel, 1774-1818

Samuel Crippen was born around 1774 in Accomack County, VA to Thomas Crippen and Anne Savage. He married Elizabeth Wise on April 6, 1806. They had no children together. He served as the Commissioner of Wrecks for Accomack County on the Eastern Shore and had wrecked ships towed in that he sold at auction, such as “the Cygnet, of Newburyport” and “the Schooner Wise,” as well as any cargo that was able to be salvaged from those wrecks. He also served as an administrator for several wills in Accomack County, to include the will and money left to his wife’s younger brothers after their brother, Thomas, died and left them part of his estate. Samuel Crippen died sometime between January 26 to January 29, 1818
