Partners
Somerset County Historical Trust
The Somerset County Historical Trust serves as a county advisory organization under the Maryland Historical Trust. They participate in various state and federal preservation programs, advising and assisting local preservationists in individual projects. They serve as the fiscal agent for Voices of the Eastern Shore.
Albert and Shirley Small Special Collections Library, University of Virginia Libraries
The Albert and Shirley Small Special Collections Library holds more than 16 million objects including manuscripts, archival records, rare books, maps, broadsides, photographs, audio and video recordings, and more. The Collections are particularly robust in American and British literature, the history of Virginia and the southeastern United States, the history and archives of the University of Virginia, sporting books and manuscripts, World War I, bibliography and book arts. For this project, they’ve partnered with Voices of the Eastern Shore to provide access to the collection, Papers of the Quinby, Teackle, and Upshur families, 1759-1968.
Somerset County Historical Society
Established in 1965, the Somerset County Historical Society was created with a generous gift from Helen Watts Roberts. In 1996, the Society, in cooperation with Olde Princess Anne Days, supported the formation of Friends of Teackle Mansion, Inc., to raise money to restore the historic Teackle Mansion. In 2000, the Boards of Directors for the Society and for Olde Princess Anne Days, Inc. merged. The Somerset County Historical Society carved out an ambitious mission for its volunteer Board of Trustees and members: documenting and interpreting the past for residents and visitors, both young and old. The Somerset County Historical Society holds some letters and financial ledgers related to the Teackles, and these are currently in the workflow for future inclusion in the Voices project. Materials include: letters; a ledger of accounts dating from 1806-1808 for the historic Washington Inn & Tavern, located in Princess Anne; a legal document that lists two enslaved women removed from Virginia and moved into Somerset County, Maryland by Littleton D. Teackle; and the Teackle family bible.
