Dear Sister
From the great number of letters which I have distributed amongst my friends lately one wou’d suppose me anxious to sign Upshur as often as possible,1 now it is within my power. However, be that as it may I have another reason for addressing this scrawl to you at present. My purpose is to invite Mrs. Rose, with your approbation, to act in capacity of chamber-maid to the ladies on Wednesday, if you have no use for her at home. She may come to Mr. Parker’s in the morning and from thence here by water.
I don’t know what you will say to me for neglecting to send your shawl by cousin John. And I think too, you charged me to be particular in not forgetting it. My apology is mere stupidity and forgetfulness, a very poor one I think. However if your superlative goodness can invent a better, please apply it.
I have cut the paper and don’t think my bushes for the cake pretty in a very eminent degree.
Indeed I don’t know how they shou’d be as it was my first attempt.
Aunt and Juliet's love to you. Give my particular respects to Mrs. Eyre. I hope she has ere now lost her disagreeable companion the Ague.
Farewell ‘till Wednesday, at which time I hope to see you in perfect health and happiness.
Adieu
