Princess Anne, 19 Aug. 1805
Dear Sir,
We propose starting for Washington about the 20th and returning within a month, from after which we shall expect the pleasure of seeing you in conformity with your promise to visit us. In respect to what passed on the subject of purchasing the rest of our land in your Vicinity, I can only say as the result of my Thoughts on the subject since we parted, that if you continue and you [illegible] portion to purchase. There is little doubt of our Bargaining, as I shall not put a price on it exceeding its real worth, and as I am persuaded you would not offer. As I wish to put off all my engagements in the Course of the Unknown
which I am convinced will require every possible effort in the present state of things here. And I fear that Mr. Wilson will not be able to pay what he engaged between this and the first of next year. I have nothing now of consequence to pay before the 9th of Oct. next, when I have a large sum to raise which must be provided for, so as to preclude as near as may be the possibility of disappointment. Therefore, should you have any money by you, the use of it at that time w’d particularly oblige me. Should you decline purchasing, I w'd refund the amt at the beginning of next year, when I have several large payments that will be due me. I shall be much obliged by your reply addressed to the care of Capt Tingey, Navy yard, Washington, mentioning when
we may expect you up, and If may expect any and what aid on the 9th Oct. I allways find it better to begin in time to provide for engagements and especially as I am going from home, I wish to guard against disappointment.
