My dearest girl
Happy are they who have such a child as my Elizabeth is to me! And happy am I that I can so truly parody your filial expressions. Go on my child in the virtuous course you have enter’d on. Be the delight of your Mother's heart. Her stay, her pride!
I have receiv’d yours from the country and really rejoice in your fair prospects. I owe more to your friends than I can express for their kindness to you; and to Mde Grelaud and Mrs Brugiere, the kind disinterested Mde Brugiere! I feel under obligations which I may never be able to repay in kind, but which will make a lasting impression of gratitude on my heart. Tell them so. I have receiv’d many letters from you, I believe, all you have written, and have delivered them all and more too.
On the subject of my visit to you, be satisfied, my dear, that I hold it seriously in
