Princess Anne. July 4th '15
You may conceive, my dear child, what delight your letter gave me, which I received yesterday. I think you improve in writing as I had no difficulty in reading your characters. On the score of spelling, there were fewer mistakes too than I ever saw in an unrevised epistle of yours. The word “keep” you spelt “kepe” and neglected to double the final consonant in” knitting” which you had “kniting.” The pronoun “whether” you spelt “whither.” I do not criticize you thus, my dear, because I think your letter worse than might have been expected. On the contrary, I think you have improved, and merely take notice of these little inadvertencies that I may guard you against them; for inattention is often mistaken for ignorance; and moreover, I wish everyone to view you as I do, as an intelligent little girl, and a generally, correct one.
I shall make every exertion to see you
