Baltimore, January 27th 1834
My dear husband,
Your’s of the 25th was duly received, with its enclosure of seven dollars for both which I thank you: the first informs me of your health, and “brighter prospects,” for which I sincerely thank God, and the money enables me to pay our washerwoman and chambermaid for their last months services, and the penny post for two letters, which items are the amount of my little debts.
We rejoice in the prospect of seeing you here this week, and trust that the weather may become milder to afford you a pleasant passage or journey as the case may be. It was said to be very severe coming up in the S. Boat on last Saturday coming from Annapolis, and I was comforted that you were not one of the passengers; there was much ice, and very cold; all came well and safely however. I trust that you may be enabled to remain here when you come. Elizabeth thanks you for forwarding the letter of her friend Miss Gibson, and sends you her dutiful love and prayers for your health, happiness and prosperity with those of
Your affectionate wife,
