Kegotank 4th July 1805
My dear Son
Your letter of the 25th Ulto was received and gave pleasure as it advised of your good health and the welfare of your friends in New York. We are all here as well as we usually are. Sarah, no doubt, will explain to you that she is in health, at Present, she has something of Philadelphia around her. Mr. and Mrs. Phillips and Miss Duffell are here and appear all in good Spirits. They came here from Snow Hill yesterday and will, I presume, stay a few days with us. Mr. Phillips proposes a ride with me to Drummond to see 4th July. The inferiority of this meeting and campai[g]n to Philadelphia will gratify him by its novelty. I am willing to make his time here as pleasant as I can.
You have no doubt received an invoice of 200 Bell Flower shipped on board the John Upshur for my account. This business is really anxious to me, as I do conceive P. Janney could not construe my letter so as to get it
unless directed by Littleton, which was not done, or intended, but finding it was bought for me and that I am informed the price is fallen in Philadelphia so as to lose by it. I have determined to send the sloop to the West Indies immediately as soon as I can fill her up with Corn. Henry will go in her.
