My dear Son
Your letter of 3d Instant was on Saturday received, it inclosed a dt on Saml Crippen for £91. 12. 4E from the President of the Harford Insurance Office. The day predeeding the rect of your's I had forwarded a Check on the Bank of deposit in New York for $297.77/100 the amount of that sum (after deducting 22 pr ct for my Commissions To Gurdon & Danl. Buck and Co. of New York agreeable to their letter of request to me on that Subject. Their letter was dated a long time back, perhaps the latter part of Apl. and before it reached me S. Crippen was in Phila. on his return he deposited the money with me, which by the by was the very day I left Kegatank, so that I had to bring it here and then transmit it, without any intimation that it was to go to another person, and having some trouble therewith I charged as above. I made the foregoing statemt. Return the Bill, and Buck & Co. will I presume refund, as they have recd. it. If the 22 pr ct is by any means to come out of Charles Chauncey, I will not have any thing which you'll please to manage.
